You will set the technical vision for battery technology and build a high-performing global team across the US and China to advance battery performance, safety, reliability, and integration.

As the leader of Battery Technology, you will own the multi-year roadmap for how WHOOP develops, validates, integrates, and manufactures battery technologies. RESPONSIBILITIES:

 • Build and lead the Battery Technology organization across Battery Cell Engineering, Battery Systems Engineering, and in-region engineering team members in China.

• Define and drive the multi-year battery technology roadmap across cell chemistry, battery architecture, charging, safety, reliability, and performance.

• Own battery technology development from advanced exploration and supplier development through design, validation, manufacturing ramp, and field performance.

• Build strategic relationships with cell manufacturers and technology partners, influencing supplier roadmaps and identifying technologies that can differentiate future WHOOP products.

• Partner across Hardware, Product, Operations, and Supply Chain to drive system-level decisions and tradeoffs across battery life, size, performance, integration, safety, cost, and member experience.

• Develop technical leaders, engineering capabilities, processes, and infrastructure that enable the Battery Technology organization to execute and scale.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 10+ years of experience in battery technology, battery systems, electrochemistry, or related hardware engineering, including meaningful engineering leadership experience.

• Deep expertise in lithium-ion cell technology, including chemistry, cell design, performance, degradation, safety, qualification, and manufacturing.

• Strong understanding of battery systems, including pack architecture, charging, protection, validation, reliability, and product integration.

• Demonstrated success developing battery technology roadmaps and bringing new technologies from exploration into high-volume products.

• Experience building and leading multidisciplinary or geographically distributed engineering teams and developing technical leaders.

• Proven ability to build strategic relationships with cell manufacturers and technology partners and influence supplier technology roadmaps.

• Strong cross-functional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to create clarity through complex technical and business tradeoffs.

• Strong commitment to embracing and leveraging AI tools in day-to-day tasks, ensuring AI-assisted work aligns with the same high-quality standards as personal contributions.
