WHOOP Labs is the on-site research facility for product development and innovation at WHOOP. We conduct human-centered hardware and algorithm research to create best-in-class product experiences that work for all members.
WHOOP is hiring a Senior Research Manager to lead research efforts on weekends, supporting critical data collection windows for participant diversity and expanded access. This is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the operation of WHOOP Labs Boston during weekend hours, and will help shape weekend research and community fieldwork strategy. As a strategic partner, program leader, and people manager, you will build deep relationships across the research leadership team, drive operational excellence during weekend hours, and develop a high-performing team delivering rigorous, high-impact research.
*This role is fully onsite at our Boston, MA office and follows a 4x10 schedule, with four 10-hour workdays each week, Friday through Monday, and three days off Tuesday through Thursday.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Partner with the rest of the Human Subjects Research leadership team to build a research roadmap, understand study priorities, and ensure high quality data collection across team shifts.
• Collaborate with the Community Engagement Lead and wider Lab Operations team to support on- and off-site community engagement initiatives, helping to diversify participants in the WHOOP Labs research panel.
• Own operational oversight of weekend WHOOP Labs Boston operation including participant experience, research session execution, and documentation for handoffs.
• Provide feedback on “off hours” operations, contributing to team retros, participant compliance meetings, and other forums for senior leadership insight.
• Serve as a senior individual contributor on complex research initiatives while championing participant experience and best practices in human subjects research.
• Manage, coach, and develop a team of researchers and coordinators, fostering strong research craft, operational discipline, cross-functional collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Human Factors, Biomedical Engineering, Psychology, Exercise Science, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience conducting research for consumer products, ideally within hardware, wearables, or health technology environments, with demonstrated experience bridging technical requirements and human subject research practices.
• 3+ years of people management experience, including coaching, performance development, and team scaling. Leading shift-based work teams a plus.
• Proven ability to build trusted relationships, influence without direct authority, and communicate effectively with senior stakeholders through written and verbal communications.
• Strong technological fluency, including experience with data management systems and leveraging AI tools to improve operational efficiency while maintaining research rigor and quality standards.
• Experience overseeing emergency action planning and drills, safety and security initiatives, and confidence in supporting unexpected events as senior staff on site.
• Strong commitment to embracing and leveraging AI tools in day-to-day tasks, ensuring AI-assisted work aligns with the same high-quality standards as personal contributions.

The U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $120,000 - $160,000. Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within each range, individual pay is based on factors such as job-related skills, experience, performance, and relevant education or training.
In addition to the base salary, the successful candidate will also receive benefits and a generous equity package.
These ranges may be modified in the future to reflect evolving market conditions and organizational needs. While most offers will typically fall toward the starting point of the range, total compensation will depend on the candidate’s specific qualifications, expertise, and alignment with the role’s requirements.
