Job Description

The Engineering Technician supports semiconductor test operations involving automated test equipment (ATE), wafer probers, handlers, and associated test instrumentation. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with probers and testers, strong troubleshooting capability, and the ability to collaborate closely with engineering teams to maintain high-quality, high-efficiency test operations. The role also contributes to continuous improvement of test processes and equipment performance.

Business context

Our test operations organization supports new product introduction (NPI), engineering sample evaluation, and production test readiness for advanced Analog, Power, MCU, and EP semiconductor products. This position is key to dependable test cell operation, data generation for engineering analysis, and smooth coordination with suppliers, cross-functional engineering teams, and production support groups.

Key Responsibilities

Test cell operations

• Support small-volume engineering sample and low-volume production programs.

• Set up, dock, and undock ATE systems with probers and handlers according to daily engineering and production needs.

• Perform device-level testing manually using ATE and laboratory test equipment.

Equipment troubleshooting and debug

• Diagnose and troubleshoot handlers, probers, and testers, coordinating with Renesas engineers and vendors as needed to restore operation.

• Debug ATE hardware, including load boards, probe cards, and socketed test fixtures.

• Identify intermittent test board performance issues and escalate to engineering for root-cause resolution.

Data collection

• Collect engineering data using oscilloscopes, network analyzers, multimeters, and basic semiconductor diagnostic tools.

Maintenance, calibration, and compliance

• Perform preventive maintenance (PM) and calibration support for ATE, handlers, probers, and other test equipment.

• Maintain calibration records and PM logs to support ISO-9001 audits.

• Ensure compliance with safety and quality requirements.
