Job Description
The National Medical Director leads and develops a team of Medical Directors and Clinical Directors responsible for clinical strategy across the Enterprise book of business. This role is accountable for the performance, growth, and coordination of that team — setting priorities, allocating clinical resources across portfolios, and ensuring consistent execution of Aledade's programs and technologies across ACOs. In addition to owning individual strategic market relationships directly, this leader builds the team's capability to develop and sustain relationships, influence clinical workflows, and drive value-based healthcare outcomes. This role requires demonstrated excellence in leading and coaching physician leaders, and in creating buy-in with internal and external stakeholders to promote and affect change in how healthcare is delivered.
Primary Duties:
• Clinical Outcomes:
Lead and drive Performance Excellence clinical outcomes across all contracts within your portfolio.
Strategically align and coordinate with Aledade’s national Enterprise strategy leadership on Performance Excellence clinical drivers of shared savings aligned with the Aledade Annual Operating Plan, currently including but not limited to driving clinical performance in Risk and Hypertensive-based initiatives, while assisting in the launch of newly signed practices.
In coordination with Executive Directors, account leads, the VP, Enterprise Partnerships, and the SVP of Strategic Initiatives, own clinical strategy goals and objectives and deploy resources including but not limited to clinical contracted extenders, coaching, and Aledade tools to drive successful clinical outcomes across your portfolio.
• Team Leadership:
Lead, coach, and manage a team of Medical Directors and Clinical Directors, setting clear performance goals tied to Performance Excellence clinical outcomes across all contracts within the collective portfolio. Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and development planning for direct reports. Strategically align the team with Aledade's national Enterprise strategy leadership on Performance Excellence clinical drivers of shared savings, consistent with the Aledade Annual Operating Plan — including Risk and Hypertensive-based initiatives and the launch of newly signed practices.
• Resource Deployment & Market Coordination:
In coordination with Executive Directors, account leads, VPs, Enterprise Partnerships, and the SVP of Strategic Initiatives, translate clinical strategy goals into team assignments and deploy resources — including clinical and medical directors’ coaching capacity and Aledade tools — across the portfolios managed by direct reports. Own escalation and troubleshooting when a Medical Director or Clinical Director needs additional support to drive successful clinical outcomes in their assigned portfolio.
• Talent Development & Clinical Bench Strength:
Recruit, onboard, and develop Medical Directors and Clinical Directors, building a strong clinical leadership bench across the Enterprise team. Mentor direct reports on serving as thought partners to VPs, Enterprise Partnerships and the SVP of Strategic Initiatives, and on championing clinical strategy within growth, local policy, and other market-level initiatives. Ensure direct reports serving as ACO Medical Directors are equipped and supported in that responsibility.
• Represent the Clinical Voice:
In coordination with Aledade's Chief Medical Director, serve on strategic workgroups or committees shaping Aledade's clinical performance strategy across the company. Represent the perspective and needs of the Medical Director/Clinical Director team in these forums, and translate outcomes back to the team as leadership, insight, and piloting opportunities that enhance Aledade's clinical resources and initiatives.
• Adapt to evolving organizational needs and priorities by taking on additional clinical leadership responsibilities as necessary, including representing the team in cross-functional or company-wide initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Education: Doctorate in Medicine (MD or DO)
• Additional Training: residency in an adult primary care specialty (family medicine, general internal medicine, geriatric medicine, combined internal medicine/peds)
• 2+ years of experience directly managing and developing physician or clinical leaders (e.g., Medical Directors, Clinical Directors)
• 2+ years of direct clinical (patient care) experience, with consideration given to quality improvement activities, participation in cost containment initiatives and other population health experiences

Physical Requirements:
