At trivago you will find those who aren’t afraid of change but rather embrace it, turning every challenge into a pathway for growth. Join trivago, work with a great team, and grow with us!

Join us in making a difference

As a Data Engineer in our Core Data Engineering team, you will build and maintain the data pipelines, models, and validations that turn raw data into trusted information for the whole company. Working with tools like BigQuery and Airflow, our team owns some of trivago’s most critical datasets, so analysts, data scientists, and product teams can find, trust, and use data with confidence. Our core session-level dataset powers decisions across trivago, and it has grown into a complex system that needs rethinking. You will have the freedom to redesign it, challenge the status quo, and push back on requests when you can offer a better way to meet the need. trivago is a place where ambition and support go hand in hand: we hold high standards and genuinely invest in each other’s growth. Apply and tell us about something you changed that nobody asked you to.

How you’ll make an impact:

• Develop data pipelines and data aggregations, including the core session-level dataset that teams across trivago rely on every day.

• Analyze existing and new data sets to understand what data consumers need.

• Build data models that make data easy to use for teams across the company.

• Optimize large-scale data processing jobs and automate workflows with scheduling tools.

• Develop data validations that protect data quality.

• Align deliverables with project team members, proactively pick up tasks from the team’s backlog, and document your work so others can build on it.

What you'll need to thrive:

• Hands-on experience building and maintaining data pipelines and data models, ideally with Python, SQL, and a workflow scheduler such as Airflow.

• Ownership beyond the task list: you spot problems nobody assigned to you, diagnose root causes, and come back with a proposed redesign, not just a ticket.

• Strong written and verbal communication, including the confidence to challenge a request and bring a better alternative that still meets the underlying need.

• A genuine learning mindset: you approach challenges with curiosity, seek out feedback, and continuously look for ways to develop and grow.

• A performance mindset: you set ambitious goals for yourself, bring bold ideas to the table even when they challenge how things have always been done, and have the determination and resilience to follow through and make them real.

• An open and curious mindset toward AI tools and automation: you actively explore how AI can enhance your engineering work and are excited to grow alongside evolving technologies.

What makes you stand out:

• An understanding of how web APIs and backend services work.

• Experience building AI-powered automations that take repetitive engineering work off a team, such as triaging pipeline alerts or investigating failures.

What you can look forward to:

As you grow, so do we.
This is why at trivago, we prioritize your development, offer personalized coaching through Nilo, and provide workshops, educational meetups, conferences, free online learning courses, and access to a fully-equipped campus library.

Additionally you can work remotely from a different location, within Germany or selected countries abroad for up to 20 days per year.
