Human Resources Operations Specialist
Location: Chennai, India
Department: People Operations
Reports to: Sr. Manager HR Operations and Payroll

About the Role:
We have two exciting opportunities available on our HR Operations team!
The HR Operations Specialist plays a key role in supporting core HR processes and programs at Appian, with a primary focus on onboarding, employee data management, and operational support throughout the employee lifecycle. This role helps ensure a seamless employee experience while maintaining accuracy, efficiency, and compliance across HR systems and processes.
HR Operations Specialist – North America Support
This position will be based in Chennai, India and will primarily support HR Operations across North America, with opportunities to provide support to other regions as needed. This role requires flexibility to support global operations across multiple time zones. The primary working schedule will be 12:00 PM–4:00 PM and 6:00 PM–10:00 PM IST.
HR Operations Specialist – EMEA Support
This position will also be based in Chennai, India and will primarily support HR Operations across EMEA, while providing support to other regions as needed. This role requires flexibility to collaborate with teams across multiple countries and time zones.
Key Responsibilities:
• Support the onboarding process for new hires ensuring a seamless and positive employee experience.
• Complete Form I-9 processing, verify supporting documentation, and monitor compliance with federal I-9 requirements.
• Conduct and review new hire background checks in accordance with company policies and compliance standards.
• Manage the global new hire swag program.
• Assist with processing voluntary and involuntary terminations.
• Process employee lifecycle transactions in Workday, including hires, job changes, transfers, and terminations, ensuring data accuracy and timely completion.
• Prepare and distribute employee correspondence and documentation, including job change letters and other employment-related communications.
• Administer and support key HR Operations programs.
• Support employment verification requests and maintain accurate employee records.
• Respond to employee and stakeholder inquiries received through the HR inbox, ticketing systems, and other support channels, providing timely and customer-focused service.
• Partner with cross-functional teams, including Talent Acquisition, Payroll, Benefits, and HR Business Partners, to support operational processes and resolve employee issues.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to HR Operations initiatives and projects as needed.
Experience / Education:
• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Management, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
• 1–2 years of experience in Human Resources, HR Operations, Employee Services, or a related function.
• Experience supporting onboarding, employee lifecycle processes, and HR administration preferred.
• Familiarity with HRIS systems; experience with Workday is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and confidentiality.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced, global environment.
• Experience supporting employees across multiple countries and time zones is preferred.
• Proficiency in Google Suites
