Food Safety & Quality Assurance Supervisor
Job Description
S'more about the team
We are looking for a FSQA Supervisor who will take a hands-on approach to owning and continuously improving our inbounding quality control process. Reporting to the FSQA Manager, you will serve as the single point of accountability for all receiving activities during peak inbounding windows, supervising a dedicated team of QC Associates and FSQA Technicians at the dock. You will ensure that 100% of incoming proteins and produce are inspected to standard, cold-chain integrity is strictly protected, and non-conforming product is escalated and rejected before it enters production.
Lettuce share what this role will be responsible for:
• Own end-to-end accountability for the inbounding process during assigned shifts (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday), from dock receipt through clearance to designated holding areas.
• Lead and coordinate two inspection teams — one focused on proteins, one on produce — ensuring rapid dock clearance to protect cold-chain thresholds.
• Oversee 100% inspection of all inbound proteins, including destructive testing of vacuum-packed items (e.g., bravette steak), and 100% inspection of all inbound produce across all incoming packaging types.
• Make immediate disposition decisions on non-conforming products; escalate rejections directly to vendors and coordinate returns without delay.
• Monitor and record receiving temperatures; flag and address any cold-chain deviations in real time.
• Serve as the direct liaison with warehouse and procurement teams to coordinate inbounding flow, communicate defects, and drive vendor accountability.
• Assign and monitor inbounding-related food safety programs, including pre-op inspections, GMP monitoring, and temperature logging at receiving.
• Perform trend analysis on inbounding data (defect rates, vendor scorecards, temperature excursions); use results to drive improvements and close gaps.
• Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective action plans for inbounding non-conformances.
• Manage FSQA-related on-boarding and training for inbounding associates.
• Assist with internal, CFIA and third-party audits and inspections related to receiving and supplier quality.
• Act as primary escalation point and back-up to FSQA Manager in their absence.
• Work in compliance with OH&S; acts and regulations.
• Use personal protective and safety equipment and clothing as directed by the employer and report workplace hazards and dangers to the supervisor or employer.
• Other duties as assigned.
Sound a-peeling? Here's what we're looking for:
• 3+ years in a food safety or quality assurance role in the food or other regulated industry, with experience in receiving or inbounding operations preferred.
• 1+ years of supervisory experience is considered an asset.
• Post-secondary education in Biological, Chemical or Food Sciences or equivalent experience.
• Understanding of HACCP principles, the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations and GFSI schemes.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Familiar with MS Office, Google Apps and comfortable learning and using new technology.
• Comfortable working in a deadline-driven and fast-paced environment.
• Flexible with working hours for business requirements, including early morning and weekend shifts (Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday schedule).
